Transportation
Warren County is well positioned for economic growth. The county is located in the growing Greater Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan region. The transportation network includes interstate/highway access, rail and air providing connectivity to markets in the region…in the United States…and throughout the world.
It is well positioned in South Central Iowa with Interstate 35 forming the county’s western border and connecting with Interstate 80 just minutes from the Northern border.
The Des Moines International Airport is located five minutes north of Warren County allowing most county locations to access air service in less than 30 minutes.

Highways
Interstate 80, Iowa Highway 5, and Iowa Highway 92 provide easy access to east/west locations. North/south major corridors are Interstate 35, U.S. Highway 65/69, and Iowa Highway 28. Indianola, in central Warren County, is located 340 miles from Chicago and 135 miles from Omaha. In most cases, travel to the east and west coasts takes less than 24 hours. The Highway 5/65 Bypass provides convenient access to the interstate highway system. The bypass links Highways 65/69, 5, and 28 to Interstate 35 on the west side of the metro and connects to I-80 on the east side of the metro.

Airport
The Des Moines International Airport provides a broad range of passenger and freight services. Passengers can reach 17 destinations non-stop and international flights can be reached within one connection in other major cities. “Already ranked in the top 50 airports for cargo tonnage in the United States, Des Moines International Airport has over 1 million square feet of cargo aircraft parking area. Foreign Trade Zone
Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) #107 is conveniently located on Iowa Interstate 35/80, about 14 miles from the Des Moines International Airport. The FTZ allows certain types of merchandise to be imported, repackaged, assembled with other components, and then exported without having to go through formal customs entry procedures or incurring import duties.
Rail
The Spine Line of the Union Pacific rail line runs north-south along the northeastern edge of Warren County opening up several development opportunities and allowing easy transportation. The nearest switching station and piggyback ramp is a short distance into Des Moines. Reference the Union Pacific Rail Map to better understand Warren County’s rail opportunities.
