      <title>HELP MOVE THE DORTHY AND FEROLD GRANT MEMORIAL BRIDGE</title>
      <description><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in; "><span style="font-size: 12pt; ">To those who had Dorothy Grant for a <st1:place w:st="on">Carlisle</st1:place> teacher and to those who didn't, but wish they
had, we are appealing for your help.  The
<st1:placename w:st="on">Coal</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Creek</st1:placetype>
<st1:placetype w:st="on">Bridge</st1:placetype> that connected two parcels of the
Grant farm near <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Hartford</st1:place></st1:city>
has been on the National Historic Registry since May 15, 1998.  The 88-foot long pony truss bridge was built
in 1889 by the Seever's Manufacturing Company. 
This bridge is now closed to vehicle traffic but has been offered to the
<st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Scotch</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Ridge</st1:placetype> <st1:placename w:st="on">Nature</st1:placename>
 <st1:placetype w:st="on">Park</st1:placetype></st1:place> and Trail project
for use on the 3.3 mile bike trail to cross a large ravine.<o:p /></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; "><o:p> </o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in; "><span style="font-size: 12pt; ">Because of the years that Dorothy spent teaching 2<sup>nd</sup>
grade students in the Carlisle school system as well as the dedication she and
her husband had to preserving nature and living healthy, we would like to raise
the funds to move and restore the Coal Creek Bridge and to have a plaque placed
on the bridge in memory of Dorothy and Ferold Grant. <o:p /></span></p>

daily basis!   Money raised to move the bridge would also
count towards a $46,965 match for a $460,000 Vision Iowa grant to finish the
fund raising for the $2,573,822 Scotch Ridge Nature Park and Trail project.  This is in addition to the $167,827</span> <span style="font-size: 12pt; ">in local contributions that
has already been raised.  <o:p /></span></p>

<p class="MsoBodyText" style="text-indent: 0.5in; "><span style="font-size: 12pt; ">Capital Campaign Committee Chair Denny Woodruff has
announced that the Vision Iowa Board has awarded the City of Carlisle a
Community Attractions and Tourism (CAT) grant in the amount of $460,000 for the
Scotch Ridge Nature Park and Trail project. 
The grant represents 18% of the estimated total project cost of
$2,573,822.  <o:p /></span></p>

<p class="MsoBodyText" style="text-indent: 0.5in; "><span style="font-size: 12pt; ">The trail project consists of</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; ">
a 3.3 mile long 10' wide asphalt trail that will connect the existing Summerset
Trail at the Carlisle Family Aquatic Center to the Scotch Ridge Nature Park at
the intersection of Highway 5 and Gateway Drive.  The trail will extend west across the aquatic
center property, north along S. 5<sup>th</sup> St., west through Lindhardt Park
and the Danamere Farms conservation community, under Scotch Ridge Road, north
to the Middle School and west across the Fleming and Warren properties to the
Scotch Ridge Nature Park.  An underpass
will be constructed for the Scotch Ridge Road crossing and a bridge will be constructed
for the North River crossing.  The trail will
eventually connect to the Des Moines Riverwalk along a trail system planned by
both the City of Des Moines and the Polk County Conservation Board. </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; "><o:p /></span></p>

<p class="MsoBodyText" style="text-indent: 0.5in; "><span style="font-size: 12pt; ">The park project involves
the restoration of a unique transect of several soil-based eco-systems on both
public and private properties, including short and tall grass prairies,
wetlands, wooded wetlands and an oak savannah. 
An added benefit of the project will be road and parking improvements in
Lindhardt Park.</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; "><o:p /></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 6pt; text-indent: 0.5in; "><span style="font-size: 12pt; ">  The Vision Iowa
Board has challenged the City has to raise $46,965 in local contributions by
January 12, 2012.  This is in addition to
the </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; ">total of
$167,827 in cash, pledges and in-kind services that has already been raised
from 138 separate contributors. 
Successfully completing this challenge is extremely important for
Carlisle's future.   </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; "><o:p /></span></p>
